Applications of INCONEL Alloy

Category : Blog

INCONEL alloys are incredibly versatile, used across a number of key industries thanks to the superior properties and high performance the materials offer.

Oil and gas extraction

One of the key industrial applications for INCONEL alloys is in oil and gas extraction. There are many factors to consider in this sector for design engineers when it comes to material selection. Temperatures can be very high and the raw substances being processed or stored are volatile and corrosive.

Superalloys such as INCONEL alloy 625 are utilised for the separation of extracted fluids in the processing systems for liquefied natural gas production. This material offers outstanding fatigue and thermal-fatigue strength, as well as good oxidation resistance, high tensile, creep and rupture strength, and excellent weldability. It’s often employed to line steel transfer piping in sour gas and gas extraction equipment.

AISI A387 Grade 22-PVQ Alloy Steel (UNS K21590)

Category : Blog

Alloy steels are designated by AISI four-digit numbers. They are more susceptible to mechanical and heat treatments than carbon steels. They comprise different types of steels with compositions which exceed the limitations of B, C, Mn, Mo, Ni, Si, Cr, and Va in the carbon steels.

Global Supply Line stocks and indents a large range of ‘chrome-moly’ valves. These valves are manufactured from low alloy steel containing chromium and molybdenum making them suitable for higher temperature service especially for higher pressure and temperature combinations. In addition, these valves have the added advantage of anti-corrosive properties.

DESCRIPTION

Chrome moly alloy is lightweight but strong, (similar to AISI 4130). With the additions of molybdenum and chromium, chrome moly alloy offers exceptional weldability along with oxidation and scaling resistance.

DESIGN FEATURES

  • Resistant to scaling and oxidation
  • Harden through heat treatment
  • Excellent weldability
  • Strong and tough
  • Excellent ductility

APPLICATIONS

  • Pressure piping
  • Pressure vessels
  • Welded tubing applications

AISI 4140 Alloy Steel (UNS G41400)

Category : Blog

Alloy steels are designated by AISI four-digit numbers and comprise different kinds of steels, each with a composition which exceeds the limitations of B, C, Mn, Mo, Ni, Si, Cr, and Va set for carbon steels.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF 4140 ALLOY STEEL

4AISI 140 alloy steel is a chromium-, molybdenum-, and manganese-containing low alloy steel. It has high fatigue strength, abrasion and impact resistance, toughness, and torsional strength.

Forming

AISI 4140 alloy steel has high ductility. It can be formed using conventional techniques in the annealed condition. It requires more pressure or force for forming because it is tougher than plain carbon steels.

APPLICATIONS

This alloy finds many applications as forgings for the aerospace and oil and gas industries, along with myriad uses in the automotive, agricultural and defense industries, Typical uses are forged gears and shafts, spindles, fixtures, jigs and collars.

Super Alloy 800HT™ Incoloy (UNS N08811)

Category : Blog

PRINCIPAL DESIGN FEATURES

A Ni-Cr-Fe alloy that resists high temperature oxidation. This alloy is a first choice for an upgrade from the 300 series stainless steels when improved performance or strength at temperature is required. For higher ASME Boiler and Pressure Code design values, consider Alloy 800HT.

APPLICATIONS

Heat treating equipment and fixtures. Sheathing for electric resistance alloy tubular heating elements. Heat exchangers.

MACHINABILITY

Conventional machining techniques used for iron based alloys may be used. This alloy does work-harden during machining and has higher strength and “gumminess” not typical of steels. Heavy duty machining equipment and tooling should be used to minimize chatter or work-hardening of the alloy ahead of the cutting.
